Week 4 Days

Take a Risk | Day 27

What is the one leap of faith that could change your entire life?

I’ve always been a huge believer in the value of small actions that move us consistently toward our desires and our truest selves. At the same time, I know from firsthand experience that doing the stuff that scares the crap out of me and pushes my edges can take me to the places where I get to taste the most exhilarating freedom.

If you’re used to taking those gigantic leaps of faith, congratulations! You’re ahead of the game. But if you’re like most people, you’ve probably been taught to play it safe and to fear the consequences of your actions. I am definitely not encouraging carelessness or taking risks just for the hell of it. Instead, I am asking you to get super honest with yourself about where you might be clamping down on your growth from a place of fear.

Changing your limiting beliefs about what’s possible means that you have to occasionally step outside of your own way of approaching things. Sometimes, your mind just doesn’t have the answers you are looking for. And it’s only in surrendering and taking risks that you can discover parts of yourself that maybe you didn’t even know were there.

Remember, none of this is about perfection. In fact, many of the risks that you take could very well lead to “failure,” but then again, some of the most brilliantly messy people of our time have experienced colossal failure. It’s your perspective that can transform failure into a valuable learning opportunity—and a gateway to new possibilities.

Activity

Today, explore the value of surrendering to life and taking that risk that feels way out of your comfort zone. Be gentle with yourself; this isn’t an easy process, but it’s necessary if you want to learn what you’re really made of. Coming back to the foundational tools—your anchor, your sanctuary, and your movement practice—focus on an intention that feels BIG in your life. Now, brainstorm at least three major actions that would help fulfill that intention. By major, I mean actions that make your heart beat a little faster. If you want to expand your business, perhaps doing some more public speaking would be huge…especially if the prospect of getting up in front of a bunch of people and talking shop is kinda terrifying. Now, choose one action that you are committing to, starting today—even if that simply means signing up for Toastmasters. Even if you can’t do it today, put it in your calendar so that you complete it in the next couple days. If you feel intimidated, call up a trusted friend and get some support. Trust that when you take that step toward your messy brilliance, the net will appear.
